Chapter Timeless Viewpoint
“Einstein’s Universe” Published 1979 Author Nigel Calder “The Layperson’s Guide” Thus Einstein bobbed among the angry waves of twentieth-century life as a weatherproof prophet of reasonableness. The mutual reinforcement of science and freedom of thought has helped to shape the politics of the modern world—although that is seldom mentioned when research budgets are being negotiated. The timeless point of view is not for timeservers and it is a sovereign remedy against the virus of zealotry. Nor is it by chance, in my opinion, that one of the world’s outstanding theorists of relativity, Andrei Sakharov, has become the leader of the dissidents in the Soviet Union. -------------------------------- I open with Nigel Calder's statement as it is now a matter of historic fact that his view of truth seeking scientist was ahead of it's time by a decade.
